Typikon of St Sabbas Monastery (Venice: 1545) In Greek

These files contain twenty pages each, except for the last, which contains only eight. The pages were scanned at high resolution from a photocopy of the book, which a colleague sent me (the incunabulum is to be found in the Harvard University Library). The files may take a while to open, since they are 4 to 6 Mb in size.

The letter-forms in this book are much like the cursive Greek of the sixteenth century, and there are some abbreviations. For help, click the link to see these two pages on Greek Ligatures.

The page numbers are not printed, but were added to the book by hand, in the upper center portion of the page. The numbering runs in sequence from 1 to 281, but then the next page is numbered 232; the sequence continues from there to the end with no further breaks. I have numbered the front and back of the first sheet, which seems not to be part of the original book, as ‘A’ and ‘B’, and the first three pages — Title page and Preface — I have numbered i, ii, and iii. The hand-written number sequence begins on the first page of text, but in the first fifty pages or so, the numbers are often cut off in the photocopy; and to compensate for this fact, I have added  numbers, in the lower margin. I have also added new numbers, in the upper right-hand corner, to continue the sequence from 281 to the end, without the repetition of fifty numbers. Two pages (67 and 338) are missing from the photocopy from which these PDF files were made. The text that would have filled p. 67 was supplied in a scan from a later edition, posted by Dr Emm. Giannopoulos (www.analogion.com, and go to Websites), and that scan has been incorporated into the appropriate file, with a note indicating the provenance. Page 338 is represented by a blank page with comments.  There is a Table of Contents, keyed to chapter numbers, on pages 257 and 258.

The comments by the Monk Mark are not incorporated into the text of the Typikon, as we see in modern Slavonic editions, but are appended to it, starting on page 259. A Table of Contents is found on pages 334-337, keyed to the chapters of the commentary.

Clicking on the page-number sequence in the table should open the file in a new window.
